PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Designed by Barrett Studios of Boulder, Colorado, this striking home was created to capture the breathtaking views of the 12,000-foot mountain peaks just across the valley. The homeowners sought a design that would not only stand out visually but also integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Hunter Mantell-Hecathorn, President of Mantell-Hecathorn Builders (MHB), worked closely with the owners and Mountain Modish Design to select materials and finishes that are both elegant and striking.

The combination of innovative architecture and MHB’s expertise in Certified High Performance Building has resulted in a home designed to last for generations. The use of massive triple-pane windows and energy-efficient doors ensures a comfortable, draft-free interior—whether it's a crisp -10° winter day or a warm 85° summer afternoon. With a HERS rating of 47, this home is 53% more energy efficient than a typical Durango home built to county code.

As with all MHB homes, this residence is built and certified to the rigorous standards of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program. MHB remains the only builder in Southwest Colorado that constructs 100% of its homes to ZERH standards. The ZERH certification guarantees a home that is not only ultra energy efficient but also ensures healthy indoor air quality, incorporates non-toxic materials, and is designed to be comfortable, durable, and require minimal long-term maintenance.
